Believable, warm, genuine, trustworthy; those are the words that I get thrown my way whenever people listen to my voice. And truthfully, I can understand why. I've been acting for over a decade now, and as I discovered my identity as an actor over the years, I found that what brings me the most satisfaction is creating those moments of connection with my audience. Even when I'm playing a character, I search for the honesty and personal truth within the text and translate that into my performance. I've learned that people like to feel seen and understood, especially in the media they consume, and I do my best to give that to them.
Formation
Having trained with several voice over institutes (Kalmenson & Kalmenson, Adventures in Voice Acting, GVAA) and coaches (Steve Staley, David Rosenthal), I view my voice over training as my top specialization when it comes to my acting abilities, but my background is diverse and well-rounded. I graduated from California State University - Northridge in 2019 with my BFA in Theatre Arts, having performed in every type of production you could imagine along the way. Musicals, straight plays, solo shows, improv showcases, interpretive dance pieces (I admittedly didn't care for that one), you name it! In addition, my off-days in college were spent doing background work for film and TV, which proved as an excellent education in itself in terms of learning about on-camera acting and the entertainment industry. Eventually, wanting to refocus my attention towards voice over, I went back Kalmenson & Kalmenson Voice Over Casting, where I was offered a job as an assistant casting director. I worked with them for a year and everything there is to know about the business side of voice over, starting from that first client email to submitting a DropBox full of carefully-curated auditions.
All of those experiences have given me a well-rounded skill set that has equipped me for any situation as not just a voice actor, but as an industry professional. And that's what you get when you hire me!
Expérience
What I consider to be my greatest achievement in voice over is my YouTube channel. I know how that might sound, at first, but truly, it's featured some of my proudest work, especially lately. I create video essays in which I apply the scene-analysis skills I learned from my college days and apply them to my favorite animated series and movies. This is long-form content I'm producing, with my longest video being 2.5 hours long and boasting an average viewer-retention time of 23 minutes. I've accumulated over 10K subscribers and almost 1,000,000 views across all my videos, and I accredit that accomplishment to my skills as an engaging voice for people to listen to, as well as an excellent writer and video editor.
Particularités
As mentioned at the end of the experience section, I am a writer and video editor. I know that isn't specifically VO or performance-related, but I do mix the three together quite frequently in my personal work. In fact, I recently edited a visual reel for my voice over demos and posted them to my Instagram page (@camhennings). Not the fanciest edits I've done, but I was especially proud of how the commercial reel came together!
