Nicholas Edward Williams

Stories are my hallowed ground. Whether articulated in lyrics, through melody, inflection, speaking or singing voice, finding a moment of resonance in each line is where I thrive. As a preservationist and musicologist, the stories I tell through my documentary-style music history podcast American Songcatcher requires vast research and cross-referencing to get all the context on the table. The trick is finding ways to relate the material to everyday people, and most everyone loves a good story. I've been doing that for 15+ years through my own professional music career, and for the last four years as a host and podcast producer. I have a set of skills that bridge the gap for listeners, to bring them out of their experience and into the words.

My training has been two fold. As a full-time professional musician for the last 14 years performing 125-150 shows a year, I've had my fair share of public speaking experience. Additionally, I've been a documentary-style podcast host and producer for the last four years, my program is called American Songcatcher.

My biggest achievement thus far has been collaborating with Smithsonian Folkways for a two-part biography feature on the founder of Folkways Records, Moses Asch back in December of 2022. As the most notable music preservation-focused non-profit in America, I set my sights on working with them in 2020 when starting the show, and to be where I am now, having had the pleasure of looking out from the inside of the legacy of Folkways Records is something I'll cherish as long as I'm in radio, music and voice work.

I've got 12 years of experience in engineering, editing and mixing. I've got 15 years of professional experience in singing and composing, and I've got 52 episodes (80+ hours) of finished documentary-style voice over work under my belt thus far. I am the "song and dance type" as they say.
