Have you heard my voice? Probably not. Or maybe you have and don’t know it. Because there’s nothing really noteworthy about it.

I don’t have the Don LaFontaine voice of God, I don’t have the over-the-top modulation of Gary Owens, I don’t have the laconic glibness of Sam Elliot.

I’m not the light tenor that was Johnny Olson or the heavy bass that was Don Cornelius.

I lack the speed of John Moschitta or the flat slowness of Steven Wright.

I sound like nobody in particular. Just an ordinary, regular guy.

But my job is not to make myself known. My job is to make words believed. My job is to be heard and listened to.

I’ve sold products that I and others might never have known we needed.
I’ve informed listeners of valuable and invaluable services they may have never known existed.
I’ve taught tourists and viewers about people and events in the past, present and future.
I’ve captured music show audiences with introductions and narrations.
I’ve greeted and directed unseen and sometimes anonymous callers through IVR recordings.
And I’ve entertained folks by becoming someone other than my true self.

My voice may not be memorable, but if you remember what I’ve said, then I’ve done my job.
